2 This was the first such registration, and it took place when Quirinius[a] was governor of Syria.

3 Everyone traveled to his own town to be enrolled. 4 Joseph therefore went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David.
